About Course

Pulmonary Embolism Masterclass: Mild to Severe PE Care is a 6-hour, self-paced video course by Dr A M Thirugnanam, Senior Interventional Cardiologist, Researcher, Teacher, Author and Proctor. Built on his textbook Acute and Chronic Pulmonary Embolism Care, it takes you from the mildest incidental clot to cardiac arrest from massive pulmonary embolism — and on to chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.

The course is fully updated to the 2026 AHA/ACC acute PE guideline and its new clinical categories A to E, the ESC 2019 risk classes, and the latest catheter evidence: HI-PEITHO, STORM-PE and PEERLESS, with ultrasound-facilitated thrombolysis, large-bore and computer-assisted aspiration thrombectomy, PERT, ECMO and surgical embolectomy taught step by step.

The 8 modules

  1. Foundations
  2. Recognising and Diagnosing PE
  3. Severity and Risk Stratification
  4. Mild PE: Anticoagulation Done Right
  5. Intermediate and High-Risk PE
  6. Catheter-Directed and Surgical Therapy
  7. Chronic Thromboembolic Disease
  8. Special Populations and the Future

What Will You Learn?

  • Recognise PE early and use Wells, Geneva, PERC, YEARS and age-adjusted D-dimer correctly
  • Read the ECG, biomarkers, CT and echo signs of right ventricular strain
  • Stratify every patient with ESC 2019 classes and the 2026 AHA/ACC categories A to E
  • Start, dose and stop anticoagulation safely, including home treatment and extended therapy
  • Recognise intermediate-high risk PE early and know the rescue triggers
  • Give systemic thrombolysis safely, including alteplase, tenecteplase and streptokinase
  • Select patients for catheter-directed thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy using HI-PEITHO, PEERLESS and STORM-PE
  • Run a PE response team and choose between lysis, catheter therapy, surgery and ECMO
  • Follow up after PE and diagnose and refer chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension
