The set revision text for the General Cardiology course track. Its 19 chapters map one-to-one onto the course modules, so each week of teaching has a defined reading.

Which course this text supports

This is the prescribed revision reading for the General Cardiology track and for the final consolidation block of the Board Preparation track. Its nineteen chapters were written in the same order our modules run, which means a learner finishing Module 7 has a chapter that corresponds to Module 7 rather than a chapter that half-covers it.

How it is used inside a module

Our modules open with an unfolding case — a patient arrives, information is released in stages, and the learner commits to a decision before the next stage is revealed. That format exposes gaps quickly, and it is deliberately uncomfortable. The role of this text is what comes after: once the case has shown a learner what they did not know, the corresponding chapter gives them the material in a form dense enough to fix it in one sitting.

Tutors are asked to set the chapter as post-session reading rather than pre-reading. A learner who has read the chapter first tends to pattern-match through the case without genuinely deciding, and the teaching value is lost.

Contents against the module map

1,900 notes across 532 pages. Coronary disease and acute coronary syndromes carry the largest share, matching the weighting of the course itself. Arrhythmia, heart failure, valve disease, congenital lesions in the adult, imaging, pharmacology and preventive cardiology follow. Trials are named where they underpin a recommendation — SYNTAX, EXCEL, ISCHEMIA, PARTNER, COAPT — because our assessments ask for the evidence, not just the answer.

End-of-module quizzes draw on this text directly. Learners who work the chapter before attempting the quiz typically move from a first-attempt pass rate around sixty per cent to something closer to ninety, which is the clearest argument for the reading that we can make.
